WHAT IS LOST IS LOST What is lost is not Like a ring in the coast Or a coin in the Fountain of Trevi What is lost is more Like a crystal box In our hearts on display forever What is lost is lost Because every soul Has its beauty And cannot be replaced What is lost is lost Because it can be found But it cannot be reached It cannot be reached What is lost is lost What is true is locked Frozen in the memory forever

Polaroids 03:21
POLAROIDS New York at winter, what a laugh Trying not to fall in the icy streets Holding on to you The best I could Our faces shining in the dark We didn’t know each other very well by that time Your friends and mine Dancing downtown Saw those polaroids today They made me cry I should be moving on by now But I feel like hangin’ on For a little while Oh I feel like hangin’ on For a little while Now I see the river running wild Windows shaking like a feverish child in the night Summer winds, fast-forward, rewind Saw those polaroids today They made me cry I should be moving on by now But I feel like hangin’ on For a little while Oh I feel like hangin’ on For a little while When the day is done Printed in the inside of my eyelids I find These pictures and a question mark Am I cherishing something that has changed by now?

DAYS AFTER THE RAINS These few days after the flood Have been so strange Have been so strange Found myself under the sun Beyond the rain Beyond the rain Saw a golden sign burning in the horizon, A jewel on the shore In the search for inner peace Realizing I’ve surrendered Daily treasures, moonlit scenes These few days after the rains Have been so strange Have been so strange Found myself in the river looking backwards, All I've learned and lost In the search for inner peace My hands working in the morning Boats are sailing on the breeze While I’m working in the morning Birds are singing to the breeze These few days after the haze Have been so strange Have been so strange

about

Unadorned and nostalgic -yet peaceful- “What is Lost is Lost” is a short collection of songs that celebrate the beauty of details, memory, and the singularity of human relationships. With just three songs, this EP tries to reconcile two actions that are often considered opposite - holding on & letting go- by acknowledging that people and relationships are unique and cannot be replaced.

After the publication of two full-band recordings - “No Time for Heavy Hearts” (2018) and “Conceal” (2020)- Argentine folk singer-songwriter Mauro Meloni decided to leave Buenos Aires and release his most raw work up to date. The new EP was recorded just a few days before coming to Barcelona -where he is based now- in the middle of obligations and farewells, but the real urgency of these songs comes from the desire to start a new beginning that can contain the past self.

Acknowledgements:

I have no doubt that these songs wouldn’t have been recorded and published if it hadn't been for these people I admire:

Andi Pomato, to whom I first showed the songs; he told me "dog, you have to record these songs before you leave, I'll help you out with the production". I told him I wouldn’t have time to record, and that I didn’t feel convinced with some of the lyrics/songs. Andi suggested me to think of this his recording as a way of capturing something that was happening at that moment, and it made me realize that probably in two or three months when I felt calmer it wouldn’t be the same;

Juan Pablo de Mendonça; I called him and told him that I wanted to record an EP in his studio before traveling, and in just a couple of days he opened us the doors of Casa Pedraza Studio, cooked us a great rice with vegetables and made everything sound awesome;

Delfina Mancardo, who gave meaning to the first song of the EP when she contributed her singing, who gave me feedback on the songs as I was writing them, and who accompanied me to La Plata to Andi's place to make the demos of the songs;

Henry Smith, who I haven't seen for a long time, but understood everything when he did the amazing illustration and artwork of the cover.

Thanks to my friends and family -especially my brother Tomate- who always support my song project; to Ary and Mica who gave me feedback on the cover art and helped me test colors and choose between different options; thanks to whoever is on the other side listening to these songs.
